HVAC content production in British Columbia

BC needs two content strategies in one province: year-round comfort and heat-pump content for the coast, and cold-weather reliability content for the Interior and North. Program pages need extra care after CleanBC's July 2026 changes.

Written by Ali Sedighi, MBALast updated:

British Columbia is our home province, and it is the clearest example in Canada of why one content calendar never fits a whole region. A company in Burnaby and a company in Prince George both sell heating, but their buyers search different questions in different months. Good BC content starts by deciding which of those markets you are writing for, then producing for it.

Two climates, two content plans

The southwest coast around Vancouver and Victoria has mild, wet winters. The Interior and the North have much colder and longer heating seasons. That split shapes almost every content decision.

On the coast:

  • heat-pump content runs most of the year, because buyers think about heating and cooling together
  • cooling questions arrive with each new hot spell, and they arrive earlier than many companies expect
  • humidity, condensation and air quality are recurring topics in a damp climate

In the Interior and North:

  • reliability and backup-heat questions dominate from early autumn
  • "will a heat pump work here?" is the big one, and it deserves a candid, well-researched answer
  • emergency and no-heat pages matter more, and need to be fast and clear on a phone

If you serve both, plan two calendars. Our editorial planning service builds them side by side.

What BC homes heat with, and what that means for topics

According to Statistics Canada, 42% of BC households used natural gas and 36% used electricity for their primary heating system in 2023. That makes gas-to-heat-pump content a natural pillar for BC companies:

  • comparison articles on keeping a gas furnace, going all-electric, or running a dual-fuel set-up
  • video walkthroughs of a heat-pump install replacing an older gas furnace
  • cost explainers that show what drives the price without promising savings

Electric-baseboard homes, common in older condos and basement suites, are a second pillar. Ductless heat-pump content for those buyers works well in written and video form.

Programs worth covering, as of October 2026

BC program content needs extra care this year. Through the CleanBC Better Homes Energy Savings Program, income-qualified households can get rebates on heat pumps, heat pump water heaters and envelope work, but the rules changed for invoices dated on or after 2026-07-06. Some rebates were removed and eligibility for certain upgrades narrowed.

There is also the Home Renovation Rebate Program for households that aren't income-qualified, and BC delivery of the federal Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program through BC Hydro and FortisBC, announced in June 2026.

For content, that means:

  1. audit every page and video that mentions BC rebates, and update or retire anything written under the old rules
  2. date every new mention and link Better Homes BC
  3. tell readers to confirm eligibility before relying on any figure

Our editorial standards guide explains the approach.

When BC content touches safety or licensing, link the regulator rather than paraphrasing the rules:

  • Technical Safety BC is the body that licenses gas and electrical contractors in the province, and its safety remit covers gas, electrical, boiler and refrigeration work.
  • SkilledTradesBC runs Skilled Trades Certification, which now applies to trades including gasfitters and refrigeration mechanics.
  • WorkSafeBC is the workers' compensation board.

A short, accurate line such as "our gas work is done by licensed gasfitters" with a link builds trust. We never write compliance advice.

How we would produce content for a BC company

For a typical Lower Mainland company, a first 90 days might include:

  • 30 articles split across heat pumps, gas furnaces, ductless systems and cooling
  • eight short videos, mostly crew-filmed: install walkthroughs, defrost explainers, a quote walkthrough
  • a photo routine on every job, feeding the photo library and your Google Business Profile
  • one refreshed rebate page, rewritten for the July 2026 rules

For an Interior company, swap the cooling articles for cold-climate and backup-heat content, and move the calendar earlier in autumn.

Our group's BC work includes GasBoilers.ca, a gas-boiler division built for CANRO Heat that serves 26+ BC communities. See the results page for more, or call, text or email to talk about your part of the province.

Frequently asked questions

Should a Lower Mainland company and a Kelowna company publish the same content?

Only the general explainers. Seasonal timing, backup-heat questions and even the wording people search differ between the coast and the Interior, so calendars and many articles need separate versions.

Can we write about CleanBC rebates?

Yes, with a date and a link to Better Homes BC. Requirements changed for invoices dated on or after 2026-07-06, so older articles quoting earlier rules should be reviewed now.

Do you film in BC?

We are headquartered in Vancouver, so planned shoots in the Lower Mainland are simpler to arrange. Most footage, anywhere in the province, still comes from your own crews using our shot lists.
