HVAC content production in Quebec

Quebec content starts in French and starts with electricity: seven in ten households heat primarily with electricity. Heat-pump content tied to Hydro-Québec's LogisVert program is a strong pillar, and every program mention needs a date.

Written by Ali Sedighi, MBALast updated:

Quebec is a different content market from the rest of Canada in two ways: language and fuel. Content for Quebec customers must be available in French, and 70% of Quebec households heated primarily with electricity in 2023, with natural gas at 5% and wood at 4%, according to Statistics Canada. A content plan copied from Ontario misses both.

French first, not French later

French content is a requirement and an opportunity. The Office québécois de la langue française explains that, since Bill 96 amended the Charter of the French Language, French has to dominate clearly in commercial advertising and public signs, and a website or social account serving Quebec customers needs a French version. Other languages may also appear. This is a summary, not legal advice; check the OQLF's guidance for your business.

For production, French first means:

  • Plan from French search data. "Thermopompe" and "climatiseur mural" are not translations of a keyword list; they are how buyers search.
  • Write natively, then adapt. French pages written from French research read better and rank better than translated ones.
  • Caption and title video in French. If a technician speaks English on camera, French captions and a French title and description are the minimum for Quebec audiences.
  • Keep both versions in step. When a program changes, update the French and English pages together.

What Quebec buyers search for

With electricity dominant, Quebec content centres on:

  • heat pumps (thermopompes), central and wall-mounted, and how they perform through cold, snowy winters
  • replacing or supplementing electric baseboards and electric furnaces
  • cooling, which arrives with each summer heat wave
  • programs from Hydro-Québec and the Quebec government

Montréal, Québec City, Laval, Gatineau and Longueuil are the largest markets. Gatineau companies often serve Ottawa too, which makes a genuinely bilingual library especially valuable there.

Programs worth covering, as of October 2026

Quebec's programs are generous and change often, so they make strong content when dated carefully:

  • LogisVert, from Hydro-Québec, offers grants for ENERGY STAR heat pumps, calculated per 1,000 BTU/h of capacity at -8°C, with a higher rate for cold-climate units, up to $6,700, plus support for geothermal systems and other measures. Hydro-Québec mentions the federal rebate due in 2027 and says LogisVert files are moving through as usual.
  • Rénoclimat supports insulation, airtightness and windows. From 2026-10-01 the pre-retrofit evaluation became optional and new caps apply, with a new flood-adaptation stream.
  • Chauffez vert, the former aid for replacing oil or propane heating, stopped accepting applications after 2026-03-31. Older pages promoting it should be updated.
  • Quebec signed a Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program agreement in June 2026, delivered with Hydro-Québec; the delivery program's name wasn't confirmed when we checked.

A LogisVert explainer video in French, showing how capacity affects the grant, is one of the most useful pieces a Quebec company can publish. Our editorial standards guide explains how we date and link it.

  • The RBQ is the licensing body for contractors and covers building safety, gas, plumbing and pressure equipment among its fields. Anyone doing construction work for others needs the right RBQ licence subclasses unless exempted.
  • The CCQ handles competency certification for construction-industry workers.
  • The CNESST covers workplace health and safety.

Content should show your RBQ licence number accurately. We link and summarise only.

How we would produce content for a Quebec company

A first quarter might include 25 to 30 French articles on heat pumps, baseboard replacement and cooling, a dated LogisVert hub with a short French video, crew-filmed install walkthroughs with French captions, and a photo routine on every job. The editorial planning service keeps the French and English calendars aligned, and the blog engine explains the library. Call, text or email to start.

Frequently asked questions

Can we publish English-only content for Quebec customers?

According to the OQLF, websites and social media aimed at Quebec customers must be available in French, and French must be clearly predominant in commercial advertising. English can appear alongside. Check the OQLF's guidance for your situation.

Should French content be a translation of our English pages?

No. Quebec buyers use their own search terms, and some programs only exist in Quebec. Plan French content from French search data and local programs, then adapt rather than translate.

What should we say about the federal heat pump rebate?

Only what is official and dated. As of October 2026 the rebate has been announced, and Hydro-Québec expects it in 2027, but launch details aren't published. Meanwhile, Hydro-Québec reports no change to how it handles LogisVert requests.
